Newborn Photography In The Comfort Of Your Own Home
I absolutely adore newborn photography. My aim is to keep the session as relaxed and informal as possible and, most importantly, led by your new baby and his/her needs. All my newborn photo shoots take place in the comfort of your own home - I bring all my equipment to you and it only takes me a few minutes to set everything up. We don't need a large space - I can set up easily in your living room and I will bring a selection of blankets for you to choose from so we can tailor the colours and feel of the photo shoot to your taste. Should you have any blankets etc that you would like to incorporate into some photos then that it always very welcome as well. As well as capturing photos of your new arrival, we can take some relaxed family portraits with siblings and parents joining in, using your home or garden as the backdrop.
If you're interested in booking in for a newborn shoot then please do contact me as soon as possible with your due date so that I can ensure I keep plenty of time free in my diary around that time. Once your baby has arrived you can then contact me to arrange a specific date for the shoot. I do frequently get booked up several months in advance so the earlier you can contact me the better.
The best age for newborn photography
Newborn photo shoots are best while the baby is under 2 weeks old, and ideally between the age of 5 - 10 days. This makes it much more likely that they will sleep deeply for at least some of the photo shoot meaning that I can capture some lovely sleepy poses for you. After this age I can still do a photo shoot in your home however it is less likely that they will sleep. A good option if you have missed the "newborn window" is to wait until 2 or 3 months when they have some head control as this allows us some more options for some lovely 'awake' photos.
Natural newborn photography
My style of newborn photography is very natural. Although I will gently pose your baby while they sleep, I stick to natural and extremely comfortable poses. I tend not to use many props other than blankets and perhaps anything special that you would like to include in any shots. I always aim for a soft and timeless look in my newborn photos. Should mum and dad and any older siblings want to be in some photos then that is more than welcome too - as well as the posed "sleepy" shots I also love capturing some lifestyle shots involving the rest of the family.

When booking in your session I will take note of your due date and keep a selection of dates available for you to choose from once your baby arrives.
Sessions generally start around 9:30/10am to ensure we have plenty of time for a relaxed shoot with plenty of time for milk and nappy changes!
Locations covered include Skipton, Ilkley, Leeds, Halifax and Harrogate areas as well as further up into the Yorkshire Dales.
The fixed fee of £200 includes the following:

Your photo shoot, which usually lasts around 2 hours but I will stay as long as is needed so don't worry at all if your baby doesn't settle immediately

I will then select all the best images (at least 30+ but usually many more) and will individually and carefully edit these - this stage usually takes around a week

Your own password protected online gallery from where you can view and download the edited photos in high resolution. The photos can be viewed and downloaded as many times as you want, so feel free to send the link around your family if they'd like their own copies too.
Your payment is broken down as follows:

A £50 non refundable deposit is required within 7 days of booking for me to hold a selection of dates

The remaining balance is then due on or before the date of the shoot.
I like to keep my pricing simple, with no unexpected surprises. This is why I charge a fixed fee which includes both the photo shoot and the best edited digital images from the day (at least 30+ but usually many more). Should you wish to purchase prints through me then you are able to do so easily online via your gallery, however you aren't tied in to me for prints and that is why I give you the digital images so that you can get your prints done wherever you like.

I'm happy to travel to a wide range of areas in North and West Yorkshire including:

1. contact me
Either using the Contact Me button below, or send me an email at hello@laurahartleyphotography.co.uk, letting me know your due date and if there are any particular days of the week that are generally best for you.
3. before the shoot
Once your new arrival makes an appearance (or once you know when they're likely to appear if you're having a section/induction), please let me know as soon as possible and we can then finalise the exact date for your shoot from the selection of dates I kept available for you. The first 2 weeks is ideal, but don't worry if you need more time. The shoot will be very informal and relaxed and there's no need to go mad tidying!
2 - £50 deposit
Once you've confirmed you'd like to go ahead, I’ll send you an online payment link so that you can pay the £50 deposit to secure the booking, payable within 7 days. I will then keep a selection of dates available around your due date.
4. after the shoot
The remaining balance is due on or before the day of the shoot, and you can pay using the same online link as the deposit. Meanwhile, I’ll get busy editing all the best photos (at least 30, but usually many more). Your gallery will be ready about a week after the shoot, and you can then download all the photos. You can order prints direct through the gallery or from any other print lab - you're not tied in to me.
